Spiritual Work And Practical Results!
Somehow you came to the realization that being spiritual would help you in coping with life’s daily challenges… and win more often.
Perhaps you’ve heard that spiritually active people suffer less stress, have more fulfilling relationships, and live longer a life that is richer in emotions. Or, you’ve overheard that the 21st century humans are getting more interested in spirituality, and accept it as a replacement for one of many religions that was their earlier in life. The consensus is, more spirituality in lives of modern men, never hurts. So, why not jump on the bandwagon and claim your share of the “improved existence”? Sure, but right now, let’s talk about doing some work; spiritual work.
What? Are you losing your interest already? Sorry, you can’t buy a miracle pill, a kind of “Spirituality Booster”. No, no matter how much money you’re going to invest in securing your inner peace, gaining new perspective on life and death, maximizing your life’s enjoyment, etc. it’s not for sale. You can have it all, but you’ll have to work for it. And to make the matters worse for the queue jumpers, your inherited skills and talents mean very little. You actually have to start practicing spirituality!
Can you think of a greater equalizer that our creator has put in place? Poor and rich, young and old, simpletons and intellectuals, all have equal chances to open their lives to THAT, which truly is “out of this world”.
When and where does one begin spiritual work? Anytime and anywhere. But, the best time is now.
“Straight and narrow is the path… waste no time” is a well known dictum about spiritual progress. Yes, the path is narrow and fraught with dangers. For there are many traps, false gurus, teachers and teachings that will lead you astray. And the result? Many years of studies and practices that end up in disillusionment and despair. Yet many people will follow spiritual charlatans, blinded by the glitter, glib and gold, and mesmerised by the mass adulation of the crowds. Don’t you believe me? See some of these so-called TV evangelists…
In the sixties and seventies of the last century, many “spiritual seekers” travelled to India and Tibet, to find their guru, serve him or her, and hopefully find the fastest path to realization. Sadly, many have lost not only time and money. After being mercilessly exploited in one of many ashrams that sprung up across the sub-continent in response to a huge demand, they also lost their belief in human decency. Yes, there were teachers of Truth; enlightened men like Ramana Maharshi and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, to name a couple. Money and fame meant nothing to them. Their message recorded in books, and occasionally on films, is as relevant today as it was then – 30 or more years ago. The same goes for the teaching of Jesus Christ, long forming the moral frame of the Western civilisation, as does the Buddha’s for the East.
Then, there is a contemporary spiritual researcher and teacher of Dr David R. Hawkins’ calibre. And because his roots being in the Western culture, his teachings are easier to understand to the average American, German or Australian. At the same time, you’d be surprised to know that many of his students come from Japan and South Korea… just look at the audience of his seminars. For them, and many others, Hawkins speaks the language easily understood by many men and women from all corners of the world.
To be continued…
