Why Are You Scared of Death and Dying?
The answer is simple: because you think that you have many things to lose… irretrievably. There are money and material possessions in general, involved. Then, there are other ‘treasures’ that in the ‘event of dying’ will be lost forever; associations, friendships, and a real biggie: personal memories, just to name a few. Yes, the death would come unannounced and take it all with a single swipe of the scythe. How terribly unjust!
No matter what you think of the above interpretations, and this is entirely dependent on your Level of Consciousness, this is how the issues of death and dying are perceived by the great majority of humans. Apart from the spiritual anguish they associate with dying, there’s also the perceived physiological one that makes it even more painful.
Therefore, it would be helpful to set the record straight; and although no human survived the physical death to tell the story, there are records of near death experiences, all containing striking similarities – one of them is the presence of joy. Kinesiologic testing also provides valuable insights as to how the process of dying unfolds.
Here’s what is known about physical death:
- One doesn’t experience one’s own physical death. At the very moment of the body’s expiration, with the final breath, the innate experiencer/witness/awareness faculty painlessly and instantly leaves the body, to one’s great relief. In the same instant, one discovers actually being alive and not dead at all. The feeling that the body was never the real source of existence makes one awaken to the new potentialities; immortality is being one of them. What one feels them is dependent on the Level of Consciousness at the moment of death.
- Despite the fact that the timing of one’s death has been karmically set at birth, the nature and circumstances of one’s death are influenced by a range of factors and choices. These are mainly related to one’s lifestyle (cultural patterns, health choices) and the prevailing belief systems i.e. the strength of the ego/mind’s influences.
All this should bring a great deal of relief to those preoccupied with the inevitability of death. It also helps to know that the only possible ‘real’ death that one can experience is the death of the self – the ego.
From the ego’s belief that it is the body originates its conviction that nobody has ever survived death, to relate the experience. Consequently, those humans at the Level of Consciousness 600 and above, where the ego is dead, do not experience the fear of death. Yes, yet another ‘reason’ to strive for enlightenment…
Those of us still overwhelmed by the fear of death and dying are often oblivious to the fact that they are continually killing their existence. That’s right, repeated attempts of suicide. Said Ramana Maharshi: “Everyone is committing suicide. The eternal, blissful, natural State has been smothered by this ignorant life. In this way the present life is due to the killing of the eternal, positive Existence. Is it not really a case of suicide?”
If you hold your existence to be priceless, why don’t you do something about LIVING it in the Light of the Self, in this very moment, instead of waiting, scared to death, for the judgement day and hopefully, salvation?
The judgement is happening right now; the salvation you so fearfully hope for is within your reach!
