Does Christmas Pose a Challenge to Your Spirituality?

In the atmosphere of Christmas festivities, giving and receiving, joyful carolling, accompanied by family and friends, why would one’s spirituality felt challenged? Because we all, regardless of our level of spiritual awareness, seek to attach a special meaning to Christmas. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, unless you try for a spur of growth only on “holly” occasions like this. Your spiritual practice should maintain the same intensity on a Christmas Day, and a day, or a week after. You must get to the stage when no celebrations, no specialness, no rituals are needed for you to be… what you know you are.

Regardless of our beliefs, faith or religion, we are destined for the Ultimate Glory. Said Meister Eckhart: “Behold, I have become human. If you should not want to join me in becoming God, you would do me wrong.”
Indeed, feel welcomed to the Bethlehem manger and witness once again the becoming of one of humankind’s greatest Avatars: Jesus Christ. By all means study, but more importantly, practice their lives. Stop looking for the joy that Christmas gifts give you. Turn around, and start giving. No, no gifts. Those who need you most, like these poor and homeless people on the photo below, will benefit more when your level of consciousness grows, rather than when you throw a bunch of gifts at them.

Remember, happiness comes from within. What is valid for you is equally valid for them. Live by St. Francis of Assisi’s words: “Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received—only what you have given: a full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.”
When you do, no Christmas will present a spiritual challenge for you. For you’d have distributed your Christmas gifts long before the holy day; from the font of the inexhaustible love that is the Self.
